THE DUTCH CULTURE (ESPECIALLY IN REFERENCE TO YOUNG PEOPLE)

Introduction
The Dutch are vehement, stable, and traditional and they love to compromise. The youth should have to renew, but most of them live with their parents nowadays. On Saturday evenings they see the most awful television productions and after that they go out with friends into the disco, a bar or to the cinema. Young people don’t have heroes anymore. They are relatively superficial. Youth cultures are very important to them and those cultures get a lot of attention. Young people don’t want to be grown-ups. They live at home with their parents as long as possible, where they don’t have responsibilities and it is cheap also. They talk about bits and bytes and they don’t look for the future, only one or two years ahead. When they want to know something, they are going to their computers and look for it on the Internet. Ready knowledge is not important anymore. as long as possible. Sometimes they don’t have the faintest notion of history. Short term reigns. Religion is for most of them unimportant, except in Emmeloord, where there are a lot of churches and one is fairly conservative. There is a great difference between the country and the big cities in Holland in many respects. Money is most important for the young ones in our days.
Although many people grumble, most of them feel very happy in Holland. They are very satisfied, earn more money as average. Social differences are relatively small and there are many ways to develop. Not everything is exciting, but civilised it is.

After World War II  Willem Drees was the most important Prime Minister ever in Holland. He was economical and he was common. The Dutch like common people (Doe maar gewoon, dan doe je gek genoeg => be common, that will be rare enough). Because of Willem Drees and nowadays Wim Kok the Dutch now live in “heaven”. It goes very well with Holland in every respect. But, how will it be in future. Some problems appear. How do the Dutch solve the problems of the minorities? What happens, when it goes economically bad in future? Most people think, that everything will remain like nowadays, but in the sixties and the seventies the Dutch needed workers. Then there was no discussion at all and now most of them belong to the Dutch society. Now however it seems, that racism increases. The Dutch and especially the youth do not tolerate everything anymore.
