The sexual revolution is actually still going on. Sexuality was in the sixties and seventies a topic which people were not talking about. Before 1960-70 the only purpose of sexuality was reproduction of people. You didn`t have sex because you liked it. Sex before marriage, living together when you were in love etc. was not done in those years. There was only one relation that people accepted: marriage. Homosexuality was something weird, people thought it was a disease or a sin. Homosexuality was a disgrace for the community.
Nowadays sexuality is a topic were people can talk about normally, and it’s purpose isn’t only reproduction anymore, it also for fun, think about prostitution. It’s not something bad anymore, but some 40 years ago it was something people didn’t use to speak about. When people went to a prostitute they kept it more secret then nowadays. Living together isn’t forbidden anymore, it is even quite normal nowadays. Homosexuality isn`t considered all over as a disease or a sin anymore, but homo`s still aren’t really accepted by the community. But nowadays homosexuality can be discussed frankly.
The women`s emancipation began early in the sixties. The women`s movement began to take shape in Holland these years. The women wanted to get the same rights as the men. They so wanted to get work which usually was considered to be "men`s work". In 1969 an extreme woman`s movement arose. They called themselves The Dolle Mina’s, after Wilhelmina Drucker, the founder of the Dolle Minna’s party. ‘Dolle’ means that it was a radical movement. They demostrated for equil wages etc. The woman`s emancipation could also be seen to their clothes, the fashion. Lady`s trousers with flies on top appeared, bras weren`t worn anymore. Sometimes bras were burned in public.
People began to wear tight t-shirts as sign of a free and unfettered life. Some individuals even disordered the traffic by walking topless in the streets.The Dolle Mina’s also fought for the legalisation of abortus provocatus and for the admission of the contraception pill into medical insurance. The Dolle Mina’s changed a lot with their actions and protests.
